My first piece of art is a self-portrait done with charcoal. I did it in my senior year of high school. I put it in my school's art show and actually won first place for it. There is a funny story behind it. For this particular project, it was all about our expression. Well, I was having a difficult time finding a good expression to draw, so my art teacher told me to imagine a naked person running across the street, and that was the expression she captured with her camera. I titled this piece, "Naked Laughter."
My next piece is another work I did in high schol. This one was done with pencil. It's basically a moth made completely out of plants, mostly flowers.
The third piece of work is a mixed media one. I basically cut out different shapes that resembled a rectangle when put together. I drew parts of a rose on each piece and used a different medium for each one. When I was done, I glued them all together to form a rose.
The next piece is more recent. It is a still-life I did for my drawing II class. It was done with charcoal. This took me several hours to complete since it was pretty big. The concept behind this work was basically playing with shapes compositionally. If you look closely, you can see that circles dominate this composition.
The last piece holds a special place in my heart. It is a portrait of my boyfriend. He left a few months ago for Marine's boot camp, and his family and I took his absence quite hard. That is why I decided to make a portrait of him. I wanted to dull the pain I felt when he left, as well as give something to his parents as a sort of balm to their own spirits. It's made with chalk pastels and took me about 9 hours to complete.
My favorite piece of yours would be the portrait of your boyfriend...it has such a unique quality to it. And I can't believe it only took you 9 hours! The sharp variations in shadow look great when using pastels.
ReplyDeleteAll your pieces have super details to them, such as the moth that's made from flowers. I personally like how the mixed medium rose came out. That shows how you are familiar with different mediums :]
